Entries are now closed for the competitions

The West Coast Surf Club are holding their annual Longboard Classic and BIC Sports Natural Surf Beginners Classic on September 17 & 18th 2005.  This is the 2 nd year of the event, which was a huge success last year.  We are looking at 80 entrants from all over Ireland.  This is a great weekend to showcase some of Ireland’s best surfers such as Wesley Hannigan – Irish Team Longboarder and our very own Irish team members Damien Conway and Ollie Flaherty.   These two major events in Irelands surfing calendar, are set to attract a big crowd to Lahinch, arguably Irelands premier surfing town, thanks to the efforts of the West Coast Surf Club.  The event is being organised by WCSC members, Seamus Garry, Cliodhna Fawl, Alan Black and Dave Collins.

This year we welcome some American and Australian Pro-surfers, Tyler Hatzikian, Dane Peterson, Devon Howard, Alex Knost and Ian Chisholm, some of these guys have been in the surf dvds “Single Fin Yellow” and “Sprout”.  They will show their longboard skills during the day on Saturday and will be available to give people tips on surfing.  The competition will kick off at 8.30am on Saturday with a safety briefing to all contestants, followed by the first heats at 9am for the Longboarders and 9.30 am for the BIC Sports Beginners Classic.  Each heat will be 20 mins long and competitors will be judged on their best 2 overall waves.  The finals will be on Sunday.

The BIC Sports Natural Surf Beginners Classic is for those who have never been in competition before and who surf  a BIC 7’9” surfboard.  This is a fun novice competition to introduce beginners into the sport.  The heats for the BIC Sports competition will start at 9.30am.  All the prizes for this event are sponsored by BIC Sports.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our sponsors who have helped make this competition happen, BIC Sports, Billabong, Loose-fit, O’Looneys, Lynch Hotels, Lahinch Surf Shop, Cequential Surfboards, Atlantic & Shamrock Hotels, Cornerstone Bar, Kenny’s, Flanagans, Lahinch Hostel, Enzo’s, Lahinch Surf School, Great Outdoors Dublin, Alder Wetsuits, Tubes Surf Shop, Longboard magazine and FINS, Storm watches, Erdinger , and the Irish Surfing Assoc for all their help.

WE hope everyone will enjoy the weekend which will be hosted by O’Looneys, starting on the Friday night at 8pm with a showing of the dvd “ The Hub”, on the Saturday night we will be entertained by “Milhouse”, and on the Sunday evening the prize-giving.  Roll in the waves!!!
